DISTRIBUTION COMPANY RESEARCH
At the start of a movie, two company logos are shown, the logo of the distribution company and the logo of the production company.
The distribution company is in charge of making the movie available for viewing by an audience. They determine the marketing strategy for the film and the media the film is going to be available to view on. They may also set the release date and deal with various other matters.
Distribution tends to be handled by huge companies that deal with dozens of movies in all varieties of genre every year. This means that, while they may distribute horror movies, they may just as easily distribute a comedy or a children's film, meaning that they cannot allow their logo to represent any certain genre. A distribution company's logo must be very flexible, it cannot belong to any specific genre but must simultaneously work with all of them.
Examples of distribution companies are as follows:

Examples of distribution companies are as follows:
UNIVERSAL STUDIOS
This logo is just the earth with triumphant music playing (a stable of distribution company logos.) It's simple but it certainly captures all and none of the movie genres all at once. |
20TH CENTURY FOX
Just a large golden logo with search lights and a city around it, this is designed to make you think of the cinema, or just movies in general, meaning it fits no matter what you are watching. |
WARNER BROS. PICTURES
The video above first shows the traditional logo of this company: just a sky full of clouds and the company logo with some triumphant music playing, it works with just about any movie. However, this is an example of a distribution company logo which may alter itself to fit to a movie's tonne. The rest of the video is a compilation of how the logo may change to suit the film it is currently distributing. |
THX
Vague blackness, the logo flies in, a loud, yet memorable (and again triumphant) bit of score. This works because, like all the others, it doesn't mean anything, it's just a simple logo with some simple sound. As you can see, with a distribution company, less is more. |
