Metacritic is a website which provides reviews and ratings of movies, tv shows, games and music. The reviews come largely from the website's users, and the scores out of 100 comes from the average rating given by all of those who have reviewed it.
As you can see, some of the most popular horror movies on Metacritic are Supernatural horrors, however movies like Halloween, Sweeney Todd and A Nightmare on Elm Street still keep high places, despite being released a long time ago. This shows the lasting impact and success a well made slasher can have, and with A Nightmare on Elm Street's comedic value taken into question too, this has helped to further reassure me that a comedy horror is the way to go.
Further information that backs this decision are the inclusion of Little Shop of Horrors, Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland near the top of the highest rated list. Again, these films were released a long time ago, showing that while paranormal horror may be what is currently popular, a good comedy horror can keep audiences coming back for years. The fact that these kind of movies are so rare (excluding spoofs such as 'Scary Movie' is another motivational factor in my decision to make my own.
