SOUND ANALYSIS
Sound is an incredibly important part of film, in-fact it's basically one third of the entire process of any production. If it's diegetic sound, (dialogue, birds tweeting, cars honking, anything that's physically there in the scene and can be heard by the characters), or non-diegetic sound, (the soundtrack / score of the film), a lot of what happens on screen is given meaning because of sound.
Focusing on how sound can be used effectively in horror, it's often said that most horror movies can go from terrifying to funny with the application of a mute button. That is to say that sound is extremely important for building tension and scaring the viewer. It could be something subtle like a creaking floor board, or something more intense, like a vibrating violin as a character looks around a corner, or a loud "DUN!" upon a jump scare.
